Every day, TriplePoint client AppGratis hand-picks an app that they think you ought to have. They feel strongly enough about the app to make it free for a day. We download and check out what’s on offer — because it’s free.
Let’s acknowledge the elephant in the room: Yes, today’s game Word Chums kind of sounds like Words with Friends, and yes, it’s a game about laying down letter tiles in order to score points. But, let’s not forget that both games are also pretty dang “similar” to a little title called Scrabble that you may have heard of. So, let’s move on. Word Chums may not have “friends” in its title, but it very clearly wants to get chummy with you, and it has a number of clever ways to succeed at the task.
For starters, Word Chums lets you play a game with more — or fewer — of your chums in a given game. It includes the tried-and-true asynchronous one-on-one game mode, but also comes with room for 3 or 4-player games. As for playing with less than one other chum, the game allows you to square off against a handful of AI opponents, ranging in difficulty from simpletons to geniuses. Add in the ability to customize your avatar, buy hints and letter refreshes, and a few other clever features, and you’ve got a solid little game.
AppGratis has made Word Chums free for today, which is pretty chummy of them. Grab it!
