Frisky Misc, iPhone, Mobile

Every day, TriplePoint client AppGratis hand-picks an app that they think you ought to have. They feel strongly enough about the app to make it free for a day. We download and check out what’s on offer — because it’s free.

Your iPhone has a secondary camera on the same side as the screen, specifically so you can take self-portraits in front of awesome things. But, what if you don’t want your portrait to be your giant head, occupying as much of the frame as your arm’s-length shot will allow? You’ll want Wave Cam, today’s temporarily free app, which will get you your shot at a distance, allowing you to trigger the shutter with a mere gesture. The app is called Wave Cam, so I’m sure that gesture is a fist-pump, or a jumping jack, or a headbang or something.

It really is as simple as that, in terms of usability: set the camera down and go stand for your portrait, and activate a 3-second shutter countdown by waving your hand over a specified portion of the screen. From there, though, Wave Cam adds on a few features, like the ability to share your shots directly to Twitter — plus a voice that tells you how much it loves your photos. Not enough programs tell you they appreciate what you’re doing.

If you’re ready for some non-close-up selfies, grab Wave Cam via AppGratis.
