Your Daily AppGratis: Scramble with Friends

Casual, Frisky Misc, iPhone, Mobile, Social

Every day, TriplePoint client AppGratis locates an app that they think ought to be free for a day. We download and take a look for ourselves to let you know what awaits you – why not? It’s free.

There’s a lot you can do with your friends on an iPhone — hanging and words immediately come to mind. Today’s free friend-based diversion from AppGratis is long-time favorite Scramble with Friends, an asynchronous word-spotting title that can be played in distraction-friendly two minute bursts. A 4×4 grid of letters drops onto the screen, and you’ve got 120 seconds to drag your finger across all the words you can find, scoring points for length, letter usage (10 points for that pesky X!) and so forth.

If you haven’t played Scramble or any of the other games with Friends, this is a good starting point. Scramble, in particular, combines smooth, simple gameplay with a level playing field between two competitors — there’s always that nagging suspicion, when you play Words or Hanging that your lucky opponent is getting all the tiles he really needs. Scramble challenges both players with the same boggling board, so (power-ups notwithstanding) at least if you lose, it feels fair.

If you Scramble today, AppGratis will throw in a big pile of in-game tokens, to boot.
