Frisky Misc, iPhone, Mobile

Every day, TriplePoint client AppGratis locates an app that they think ought to be free for a day. We download and take a look for ourselves to let you know what awaits you – why not? It’s free.

It’s extremely difficult to classify today’s free app, Carrot: is it a personal organizer? A ‘reminders’ app? A strange little experimental game which involves kittens and hostile AI? It’s definitely a unique offering, that much is for sure — and like its name, Carrot will keep you interested by eternally dangling helpful features and promises in front of you. You can’t have them just yet, though. Carrot doesn’t think you deserve them until you finish your chores.

If you ever felt like GlaDOS needed to be in charge of your daily routine, then Carrot is for you. The app allows you to populate a to-do list with tasks, and then puts a dark blue digital eyeball in charge of making sure you do them. Check off the tasks on your list, and your AI will cheer you on, and unlock the ability to set reminders, rearrange your list, and will offer to take care of a kitten for you back at the server farm. Fail to complete your items, and Carrot will slowly turn red, becoming belligerent and less inclined to aid you.

If nothing else, today’s AppGratis is a good way to see if angering your phone will help you stay motivated. Be sure not to poke Carrot in the eye… it hates that.
