About a month ago, we brought you word of Platinum Life: Web Edition, the new Facebook game from the good folks at Heatwave that was scheduled for release sometime in the near future. Well, “near future” translates to “now,” as the game (albeit in a beta form) launched on Facebook yesterday.
As we’ve said before, the game is a music career role-playing-game of sorts that sees you making your way from the rough and gritty streets to a lush penthouse lifestyle in the music industry. You complete missions, can compete against rival hip-hop groups or artists, and can even follow through the same career paths as artists like Ludacris and Omarion.
The game contains much more than standard mission completion though, as you can answer trivia questions to earn points, collect swag from elite events, customize your character and invite your friends to become, as Games Beat puts it, your “hype master” or bodyguards.
Heatwave looks to be making a big push for success with the title, having gained the support of Universal Motown Republic Group in an effort to include the likenesses of real artists within the game. A MySpace version is also in the works, that’s set to release in a few week’s time, and a complete MMO version of the game will also come online on the PC in the coming months.
