The Nintendo Wii is now known as the strongest gaming brand according to a study from Millward Brown Optimor. The Wii brand gained 21% in brand value over the past year as the DS actually lost some of its own.
In the company’s Top 100 Ranking of powerful brands, known as BrandZ, the Wii is leading the gaming industry with an estimated brand value of $10 billion. Last year, the DS held the top spot and grew its brand awareness, just not at a pace that matched the Wii.
The Xbox 360 saw a 1% drop in value, but it still holds the #3 spot behind the Wii and DS in brand value. The PlayStation 3 saw a significant increase of 25% and is slowly killing the PlayStation 2 brand which saw a 58% drop in brand value.
Overall, the top brands in the rankings were Google at #1, IBM, Apple and Microsoft. I must say, those are some pretty valuable names.
