Today, Valve announced in a press release their plans for Steam on Mac. The launch is still scheduled for tomorrow, May 12th and will feature at least a few games for those hungry Mac gamers to get their hands on.

Starting tomorrow, every Wednesday, new Mac games will be released for Steam in order to “to highlight specific functionalities of Steam on the Mac.” The initial set of games will be focused on “Steam Play” which allows players to buy the game once and play it on all platforms once released.

The first Valve game available for Mac will be Portal, which showcases Steam Play. Along with having these improvements on Portal, the Source engine is also available for developers to work with having native OSX support.

Torchlight from Runic Games will also be available with Steam Play support as well. “We’re very excited to be bringing Torchlight to the Mac,” said Max Schaefer, co-founder of Runic Games. “Having Steam for the Mac solves so many problems for us as a developer. We look forward to our future games coming out on the Mac as well.”

Very neat for those Mac gamers out there. Check back in tomorrow for the full report on Steam for Mac.
