Ubisoft: 50% of All Console Games Will Be in 3D by 2012

Thu, May 20, 2010

Ubisoft appears to be jumping on the ever-growing 3D train by stating that around 50% of all console games will be available in 3D by 2012. In a statement, they stated:

“We will see more and more product coming in 3D on 360 and PS3 but also on portable machines,” said the publisher during a recent investors call. “We can count on substantial growth in the 3D market just because it’s more immersive, so it will be a good way for the industry to give even more emotion to the gamers.”

“I think next year we should see maybe 15-20% of games will be 3D on next-gen consoles … and the following year will be at least 50% of the games.”

The only real 3D initiative we’ve seen so far has been from Nintendo with their new 3DS console available next year. However, it’s expected more consoles and hardware will beging supporting 3D games very soon with all of those fancy 3DTVs hitting the market these days.
