Time management games are in no shortage on the iPhone, and Megaplex Madness is another one to add to the pile. However, it does add some unique elements that make it worthy for the skeptic. Thanks to Big Fish Games, we were able to take a look at the game and provide you with a recount of our experience.
Megaplex Madness starts off with the story of a local movie theater that is looking to close its doors for good if there is no buyer for the property. You decide to take ownership of the old relic and save the movie theater from being demolished. Now it’s up to you to run the theater and make a success out of it again.
The gameplay portion involves moving your guests to the places they need to go within the theater, such as the ticket booth, snack stand, arcade machine, bathroom and ticket taker/theater. You do so by simply holding on the guest and dragging them to where they need to go. The action that they take once placed does take a few seconds to complete, so it’s important to prioritize guests if they’ve been waiting longer simply because guests can and will get angry if they’re waiting too long (the loss of hearts increases after the movie begins, so hurry up!).
Once a guest completes an action, they will want to move on to something else until they are in the theater. Some guests will need to get popcorn, pizza, and use the restroom before even buying their ticket. You are scored for each action taken by the guests, and this is where color combos come into play. Each guest is assigned a certain color, usually designated by their shirt, and will need to be placed accordingly. It’s best to assign certain ticket booths, popcorn stations and ticket takers to specific colors because you’ll usually end up with several of each. Placing a guest on a same colored tile adds bonus points that can really add to your score and help you master each level.
After completing the levels available, you are given options to repair the theater as well as upgrade the various stations and booths. After completing enough levels and making the theater completely successful, you will move on to the next theater which provides a new set of challenges for the player.
Overall, Megaplex Madness for the iPhone brings time management to unknown waters and does well enough to keep most players hooked. If you’d like to check out the game for yourself, be sure to download it from the App Store for just $2.99.
