Android, Mobile, Social, Twitter

In the mobile news world, we have some very interesting stories leaking down the pipes like clockwork. Today, we have the new feature announced by Twitter called Fast Follow for SMS and the release of the Motorola Droid 2 on Verizon tomorrow.

Twitter Fast Follow

Twitter has just announced a brand new feature for people who enjoy using Twitter on their cell phones via SMS or Texting. The new feature is called Fast Follow and has the distinct advantage of not requiring a Twitter account to use.

With this new feature, you simply text “Follow @account” where @account is the username you want to follow to 40404 and Twitter will automatically begin sending Tweets from that Twitter account directly to your phone. This would be most useful for feature phones (phones that are not smartphones) or those with poor data connections. The blog post in which Twitter announced this claims: ““try it out the next time you see a Twitter @username at a restaurant or store, on a billboard or on TV, or if you hear one mentioned on the radio.”

SMS support still drives a good portion of Twitter’s business, so this seems like a smart move in the right direction for them.

Motorola Droid 2 Releases Tomorrow, Pre-Order Today

Tomorrow, August 12th is the official release date of the Droid 2 from Motorola and Verizon. The phone was officially announced yesterday, and will cost $199 with a new 2 year contract. As just with the leaked specifications and pictures, the Droid 2 features a physical keyboard and keeps the relatively same design as the original Droid.

The specifications are mostly just like its brother, the Droid X but this appears to be aimed at those users who just can’t leave their physical keyboard just yet. Additional features include Android 2.2 (the first phone to launch with this new version), Flash 10.1 support, mobile hotspot and the Swype keyboard.

If you’d like to take a closer look at the Droid 2, head over to the Droid Does website where you may also pre-order the device.
