Speaking with Mobile Entertainment, a spokesperson for THQ has announced that its Finnish mobile games studio Universomo has begun liquidation.
The rumors had been spreading this week about such an outcome, but the company confirmed yesterday that the developer’s 15 upcoming games and mobile apps will be released through outsourcing and resources elsewhere within the company.
“We are very excited about digital gaming and have increased our investment in this area,” says the spokesperson. “We have determined to develop digital games using a global network of external developers as well as our recently announced THQ Digital studios.”
On the topic of THQ Digital Studios, a company press release from early February announced that the first games from THQ Digital Studios in Phoenix and Warrington would come early in the fiscal year 2011. It will be interesting to see how that timeline changes (if at all) now that Universomo’s games are entering the picture.
