THQ has officially announced de Blob 2: The Underground. The game will be multi-platform, available on Xbox 360, PS3, Nintendo Wii and DS starting in Spring of 2011.

Incorporating high-definition graphics and 3D gameplay (where available), de Blob 2 will see Comrade Black, the evil menace from the first game, making a trek to the world of Prisma City, wiping out its color and forcing our hero to save its citizens, and the city as a whole from the bland lives they now live in complete black and white.

Here’s a look at what to expect from the de Blob 2 console versions, thanks to a company press release:

“In de Blob 2: The Underground for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii, Comrade Black is back and so is his war on color. Disguised as Papa Blanc, Comrade Black rigs the city’s election in order to win and take control of Prisma City with his brainwashing new cult. That is, until de Blob bounces back in full color-spreading force with his revolution to restore color and life back to the city and its residents. In the colorful sequel, de Blob will paint his way through the enormous and pollution-filled Prisma City accompanied by a fantastic new interactive soundtrack and an arsenal of new tricks to confound his enemies. Joining de Blob will be a new robot sidekick, named Pinky, who will help him blast enemies, disable traps, and negotiate the challenging levels of Prisma City. The game will also present players with new side quests, which allow players to upgrade de Blob’s abilities. de Blob 2: The Underground will feature an in-depth single-player campaign with all-new power-ups and challenges, as well as multiplayer modes that support co-operative and competitive play.”

Meanwhile, the Nintendo DS version of de Blob 2 will offer traditional 2D, side-scrolling gameplay where de Blob finds himself as the final test subject of the mad scientist Dr. Von Blot, who has been performing experiments on poor creatures in an attempt to create a new mutated ink. Using slingshots and a “Sticky Mode,” players will head through the platforming gameplay meeting new friends.

In addition to the games proper, THQ has announced an upcoming partnership with SyFy, and the eventual release of “de Blob branded consumer products.”

We’ll be sure to bring you more information about de Blob 2 as it becomes available.
