HeroCraft to Bring Majesty to iPad

The new iPad is already pretty majestic, what with all of its shiny surfaces and fancy wireless technologies. Still, that’s not enough for mobile developer HeroCraft, which has announced it will be bringing Majesty to the iPad, once it has also done so for Java, Android, and Blackberry devices. Majesty, in this instance, is not a quality, but the title of a strategy game for the PC. Well, maybe it’s both in this instance — who knows?

In a press release, HeroCraft says that Majesty will be their first title to take advantage of the iPad’s full resolution, calling the iPad “the ideal platform for gaming, filling the gap between traditional desktop and mobile phone devices.” They stopped short of referring to it as “Your Majesty,” at least.

Chillingo Releases IGF Mobile Finalist Guerrilla Bob, Including New Social Platform

It’s quite a day for the folks at Chillingo, releasing a new iPhone game which is already a finalist for IGF Mobile, and a wholly new set of social game tools, all at once. Guerrilla Bob, as we reported yesterday, is one of three finalists in the “Achievement in Art” category for this year’s IGF Mobile, which ought to provide Chillingo and the developers at Angry Mob Games with a built-in audience. What’s more, the title signifies the initial use of Chillingo’s own social platform, Crystal, which provides achievements, leaderboards, and Twitter/Facebook support for games. Crystal, Chillingo would like to point out, is completely free for developers to download and use.

iPad Starts at $499 in Two Months

Well, we asked how much it would be, and when we could have it, and Steve Jobs answered rather definitively: The new Apple iPad will be shipping worldwide in 60 days, and the lowest-end model will retail for $499. That model will have 16GB of storage, and will contain WiFi only, whereas a WiFi + 3G model will cost more and won’t be out for another 30 days after that.

Apple’s press release has the full details on price and release:

iPad will be available in late March worldwide for a suggested retail price of $499 (US) for the 16GB model, $599 (US) for the 32GB model, $699 (US) for the 64GB model. The Wi-Fi + 3G models of iPad will be available in April in the US and selected countries for a suggested retail price of $629 (US) for the 16GB model, $729 (US) for the 32GB model and $829 (US) for the 64GB model.

And there you have it. Would you like to head out and set up camp in front of the Apple Store now, or wait for the rain to let up?

Apple Tablet is Official: The iPad

The rumors were mostly true! Yesterday’s leaked name certainly turned out to be accurate, at any rate; this morning’s announcement from Apple CEO Steve Jobs revealed that the long-rumored device is, in fact, named “iPad.”

Details are flying in as the Apple presentation progresses, but plenty of gaming specs and companies have already been announced, including major players like EA and Gameloft. The iPad will be half an inch thick, feature a 10″ display, and claims to run for 10 solid hours on a single battery charge — even while playing video. What’s more, it will run “virtually all” existing iPhone apps, unmodified, allowing it to work with (nearly) the entire existing library of games.

PikPok Flick Kick Field Goal Released for Gaming & Rhyming Goodness

One has to imagine that an opportunity like this is rare: Your company name is PikPok, and you’re releasing an iPhone game where you kick a ball with a flicking motion on the touch screen… PikPok Flick Kick Field Goal. I could say the name all day long.

Of course, PikPok has already released other titles in the Flick Kick series, but this one is specifically for us Yanks. Flick Kick Field Goal puts you in the role of the NFL’s most cherished position, allowing you to kick field goals and hopefully win valuable endorsements and the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. Okay, those won’t happen, but there are OpenFeint leaderboards and Achievements.

Ah, poor field goal kickers. Nobody ever knows your name unless you really screw up. PikPok Flick Kick Field Goal is available now in the App Store for $1.99.

Final Fantasy I and II Coming to iPhone

Square Enix seems to be satisfied with the reception they’ve gotten in the App Store for iPhone games like Song Summoner. According to FingerGaming, the RPG superstars will be showing mobile gamers some more love, bringing two of their original hits to the device, namely, Final Fantasy I and Final Fantasy II.

The titles appear to have received a thorough iPhone treatment, including a touch-screen-friendly battle interface, and FingerGaming reports enhanced graphics and sound will round out the releases.

All in all, I think this sums up our feelings:

3D Fighting on Facebook from Gravity Bear

Social gaming startup Gravity Bear has announced a 3D social fighting game – Battle Punks will punch and kick its way onto Facebook this holiday season.

Gravity Bear was founded in 2008 by Phil Shenk, formerly of Flagship Studios. They say: Gravity Bear is a new breed of social games company where dedicated game creators share the goal of making unique social games through a steady diet of creativity, fun and contemporary design.

In Battle Punks, players will create avatars and enter them into combat against others in a bid to become the fighter in the kingdom.
