While G5′s Supermarket Mania might traditionally be just an iPhone/iPad game, G5 wants to share the frantic time management game with the world, and as such, have brought the game, or at least a portion of it, to Facebook.
Supermarket Mania on Facebook encompasses the iPhone game’s Survival Mode, which sees you guiding Nikki around a crowded grocery store, refilling shelves and pleasing customers until you have failed to please three, thus ending the game. There is no goal other than that, hence the “survive” part.
To play the game, you’ll click on the various shelves, counters or coolers to restock them with merchandise. All kinds of food are represented, from ice cream and chicken to milk and water, with fruits and vegetables in between. Customers will enter the game at a rapid pace, each with a thought bubble representing what they want to purchase next. This gives you a heads-up of what shelves need to have products on them at any one point in time.
After filling or refilling five shelves, Nikki will need to go back to the stock room to refill her cart with more products. This is a time consuming activity, thus adding to the challenge of the game, as customers are impatiently waiting for their bananas or pineapples and you can do nothing about it as Nikki is in the back of the store.
Power-ups help you even the score, like items that make Nikki walk faster, items that make customers forget their current wishes and purchase any item currently in stock, or items that keep all of your customers patient for a short amount of time.
The game contains a dynamic that makes the most commonly demanded items in the real world in equally high demand in the game. That is, items that are in high demand in the real world, like hot dogs and milk, are in high demand in the game, whereas full pineapples or donuts are less important in the game, just as they are in the real world.
When you lose, your score will go to fill the high score bar at the bottom of the screen, and you’ll be ranked on the left side of the gameplay area on a leaderboard against friends that have also played this demo of sorts.
