Kotaku has reported that Valve Software’s Steam service has seen a new beta release. The special news about this release is the inclusion of a user interface with many new features and goodies within. Many users have been requesting an overhaul of Steam’s interface for several years now (Steam has had the same interface since its launch in 2003) so it is very nice to see Valve respond to those concerned users.

The new interface features a friends list expansion, which makes it easier to see exactly what your friends are doing at any point in time and a news aggregator that makes finding the news gamers care about easier to find. As for now, the new Steam interface is an opt-in beta while Valve listens to feedback about it and fixes bugs that may be present.
