iPhone, Mobile

Monster Dash is the latest cheap iPhone hit from Halfbrick Studios, the studio behind the critically acclaimed and successful Fruit Ninja and Fruit Ninja HD. The talented folk at Halfbrick appear to have done it once again with Monster Dash, the latest and greatest in the run, jump and shoot genre that has taken the iPhone game world by storm.

In Monster Dash, you play as the daring hero known simply as Barry Steakfries, who lives in an unfortunate world without public transportation and where monsters run amuck. However, Barry is armed with powerful weapons to help him on his adventure through these treaturous lands in order to defeat these monsters.

The monsters within the game depend on which level you happen to be playing at the time. In “Tomb Town” for instance, you fight mummy characters, in “Vampire Kingdom”, you fight vampire characters reminiscent of Count Dracula. Each of the worlds have a distinct style and music which really brings out the atmosphere.

Variety of weapons is important in making a game of this style unique, and there are a few to pick-up in Monster Dash. The machine gun with a jetpack for instance, allows you to fly in the air as long as you’re holding the trigger and rain down death on all who are below you. These special weapons have limited ammo and will completely disappear when you run out.

When you do eventually meet your impending doom in Monster Dash, you are taken to a screen displaying your results. That is, how many foes you managed to defeat and how many meters you managed to run. You can also upload your score to Facebook or Twitter in order to challenge your friends.

Overall, Monster Dash appears to take the ‘run-and-jump’ genre to the next level. If you are interested in Monster Dash, be sure to download it from the App Store for only 99¢.
