Sony Online Entertainment and LucasArts are bringing a new Star Wars massive multiplayer online game to market this fall, this time geared towards kids. The game will be heavily integrated into the Star Wars Clone Wars Adventures television show.
Six years ago, SOE launched Star Wars Galaxies, a Star Wars online game targeted towards adult fans. The game was not as successful as both developers and fans had hoped, so it is not surprising to see that the upcoming Clone Wars Adventures is headed in a different direction. The new addition to the franchise will be free-to-play, a plus when marketing towards children, with real money being required for optional virtual goods like outfits, items, and accessories.
In keeping with the show, the game appears cartoony and light hearted. Players will be able to take advantage of customizable options, play mini-games and take part in social events. Star Wars characters from the show will be an integral part of the online experience and storyline. Some of the activities available to players include speed-bike racing, starfighter piloting, battling waves of droids and solving droid programming puzzles.
Clone Wars Adventures will be launching this fall online and in retail stores. You can check out the trailer, screenshots, news and more at the official website.
