Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Well, it’s not Phantasy Star, in any case, but that’s pretty much the only classic SEGA title we’re not getting in October — the word went out today that the publisher and TriplePoint client is letting both Sonic Adventure 2 and NiGHTS into dreams… hit the interdownload-o-trons in a few weeks. They’re both going to be ten bucks, and they’re both coming out the week of 10/2.
I may have spent more time on my Dreamcast playing SA2 than any other title I owned. I refused to stop until I had collected every last emblem and unlocked the secret Green Hill Zone level. Yes, that did involve spending countless hours raising Chao and taking them along in my VMU. Come to think of it, am I the only one who thinks that would be a perfect mobile app? You could upload your Chao from the game and bring them on your phone; it would be a perfect adaptation of the original experience — except you wouldn’t have to buy new batteries every three days.
From the press release:
On the PlayStation®Network,NiGHTS and Sonic Adventure 2 will be available on October 2 for $9.99 / £6.49 / €7.99and available on October 5 for 800 Microsoft Points on Xbox 360® LIVE Arcade for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.
Sonic Fans will also be able to enhance their Sonic Adventure 2 experience with Battle Mode DLC for an additional $3.00 / 240 Microsoft Points. Battle Mode includes more maps and characters from the beloved Gamecube version of the title, including the popular Chao Karate.
As an added bonus for NiGHTS into dreams…, players who purchase the title will receive free access to the dreams from the original 1996 holiday-themed expansion,Christmas NiGHTS, previously only available through a Saturn holiday bundle or from special game and magazine promotions.
I can’t wait for Dr. Eggman to pick up and lovingly hug some adorable Chao!
