In a press release, Triplepoint client Sega has announced a new platform for the upcoming release of Sonic the Hedgehog 4, the iPhone. Along with this news, Sonic 4 was announced to have a new release date for the later half of 2010.
In the statement, Sega said that they are “incredibly happy at the overwhelmingly positive response to Sonic The Hedgehog™ 4 Episode I from both press and fans around the world. SEGA wants to ensure that we’re delivering the best Sonic experience possible.”
The decision to move Sonic 4 to the second half of 2010 seems to be a quality issue, in that they want to make sure Sonic 4 has enough time to be balanced as well as have a fine tuned interface. These refinements will hopefully bring “the kind of polish that an important game like this demands, ultimately providing fans with an unrivaled classic Sonic feel.”
While no more specific release date was given, we do know that the game will arrive on Xbox Live Arcade, Playstation Network, WiiWare and now the iPhone in the later half of 2010.
