If you’ve spent any amount of time in your YoVille pad recently, you might have noticed glowing key rings strewn about the floor. Click on one of these keys, and you’ll be introduced to a new feature Zynga has launched this week that’s set to have friends helping each other earn treasure.
Unlike what Hollywood films would tell you, where you’re not supposed to press the glowing red button, this is a case when that is, in fact, exactly what you should do. After clicking on the glowing key ring (if you look closely at the above screenshot, you can see the keys, that have somehow managed to find their way under my kitchen island, glowing in red), you’re prompted to post the keys to your feed for your friends to claim.
The keys go up as a regular news post, and, when clicked, grants your friend a single key in a particular color (red, green or blue). Depending on the key you receive, you’ll need to find a mystery chest in a corresponding color so that you can unlock it. Luckily, mystery chests can be given as gifts over on the free gifts page, so finding each individual item (either a single key or a single chest) really isn’t that difficult.
Where the challenge comes in, is in happening into one of each item in the same color. To help increase the flow of keys and mystery chests in the game (and therefore increase your chances of finding the right colored item), Zynga has made it so that when you receive a key or a chest from a friend, you can use an in-game pop-up to send out the opposite item. That is, when you find a mystery chest, you can send out more keys, and vice versa.
It’s a tricky process, but it’s definitely not impossible. Should you lack the patience or the neighbors to give this feature a go on your own, you can also purchase keys and treasure chests out right for 2 YoCash each.
So, what do we earn after all of this color-coordinated trouble? As per the in-game picture of the Mystery Chests, it looks like we’ll be rewarded with either coins or YoCash for making a match, but it’s not inconceivable that other items might be placed inside as well. If you happen to have made a match already, what was inside your mystery chest? We’d love to know if it was worth all of the effort.
