iPhone, Mobile

Do you enjoy playing with that old chemistry set of yours, converting liquids into gas, gas into solid and back again? Well, the iPhone game for you just may be Master of Alchemy which takes those Alchemy skills to the next level with complex puzzles designed to break your brain. Thanks to Chillingo, we’re able to take a look at the game and share our experience with you.

In Master of Alchemy, you play as an apprentice of Alchemy, learning the ropes by mastering puzzles using only the power of alchemy. This means turning various materials into other substances such as liquids into gas, or gas into solids. Any various amount of combinations can be completed on any level. To perform these tasks, you have various tools and machines to perform the dirty work. The ultimate goal is to collect a certain amount of each colored substance, shown at the bottom right of the play-screen.

You place these machines on the board in strategic places, so they can be transformed into the different substance you need. Each level has different colored substances need (some levels have more than one substance needed) and you need to get them to the appropriate container for collection. At the end of each level, you are graded on the length of time it took to complete the level, how many substances were wasted and how ‘pure’ you were in collecting them.

The backdrop of Master of Alchemy is that of a steampunk underground lair of a mad scientist. It fits the mood well, along with the sounds of the area. Water drips and keltic music accompany the theme and immerse you even further as you play.

Overall, Master of Alchemy would suit well any hardcore puzzle gamer on the iPhone with its quick, to the point action and intelligent puzzles. If you’d like to check out Master of Alchemy for yourself, be sure to download it from the App Store for just 99¢.
