Location based service provider SoGeo has announced that it has secured $1.2 million in funding to fund further development of its product, as well as help market the product, reports VentureBeat.

SoGeo allows users to find things in their area based on their specific tastes or what they like or dislike to do during the time of day it might be. The company also works with different venues to provide additional experiences through SoGeo. For example, if you visit the FabWall exhibition at the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, those of you tapped through SoGeo would receive additional information on the exhibits as they walked through.

This approach definitely seems to be a bit more interesting approach to location-based services than Foursquare’s check-in model. This seems like it can enhance experiences, rather than give you perks in your frequented locales.
