Bringing the Days of Wonder board game Small World to the iPad was a great move, but many buyers were frustrated that the game was only playable with two people. Luckily, this week saw an update to the game bringing single player on board. Small World can now be played solo versus the AI.
The update also included a number of game logic bug fixes, returning some race/special power combos to normal operating procedures. For example, Ghouls who happened to be Flying can no longer use their special power in decline. Unfortunately the update also came with a price increase; Small World is now available for $6.99 rather than the original $4.99. Folks who already own the game will receive the update for free. You can pick up Small World in the App Store here.
Have no idea what Small World is? The game is based on a turn-based civilization board game. Players take control of races, each with their own racial abilities, randomly paired with special abilities and vie for territory on a crowded map. Over extended races can be put into decline and new races selected. There’s a considerable amount of strategy involved in getting the most points out of a team, and the random ability assignment adds an element of luck. The player with the most points at the end of the final round wins.
