Facebook, Social

Everyone is getting into the Olympic spirit this week, including Sega, who has released the Vancouver 2010 Official Minigame, a Facebook app that lets friends compete in a handful of Olympic events.

The games, snowboard cross, giant slalom, ski jumping, and short track speed skating (which can be played using little more than the arrow keys on your keyboard), allow you to compete with your own friends, or those from your own country, as well as international players. Game winners are rewarded with virtual gold, silver and bronze medals.

Your performance in each game can be posted to your news feed, thereby inviting friends to join you in the sport, and you can use the game’s interface to track your progress as it relates to any friends who have added the app.

If you find that you have a knack for these types of games, you can also head over to olympicvideogames.com and play similar versions of them there, as, according to Inside Social Games, prizes can be won via that outlet. However, if the social games space is more to your liking, head over to Facebook and give one of these mini-games a try.
