Playfish is following in Zynga’s footsteps by creating a set of Mystery Gifts for their popular Facebook game Restaurant City.

Unlike Zynga’s Mystery Gifts, however, which are sent from any of their games’ Free Gifts pages, the mystery gifts in Restaurant City seem to be comparable to the free ingredients users can also now receive just for logging into the game.

The mystery gift feature hasn’t launched yet, so all we can do is speculate at this point, but here’s Playfish’s official announcement of the feature as further evidence:

“Mystery Gifts coming soon! We’re putting the finishing touches on two special gifts for all Restaurant City players. Play every day this week to receive them both!”

Social Games Help picked up on the odd wording of the statement, and the dual possibilities it presents. Does this mean there are just two items that can be found in Mystery Gifts, or does this mean that there are two types of boxes to begin with, filled with an assortment of goodies? Only time will tell.
