Console

Recently, the PS3 received its 3.40 update that added a few new features that gamers can get excited about. The first comes in the form of additional Facebook connectivity that brings your Facebook and PSN friends together as well as bringing your PS3 photos to Facebook directly.

Sony upgraded their PSN Facebook app so it now includes your PSN friends and allows you to add Facebook friends to that list. The new app alos lets you compare trophies to your friends as well as share tips and tricks about certain games. When it comes to photos, you can now upload any of the images on your PS3 hard drive to Facebook or Picasa, which is a nice touch.

Perhaps even more important is the launch of Sony’s premium PSN service, PlayStation Plus. Announced at E3 2010, the service brings some additional features for users at a cost of $17.99 for 90 days or $49.99 for a full year.

Some of the features included in PlayStation Plus are:

  • Auto-patching
  • Exclusive demos and betas
  • Discounts on PlayStation Store items
  • Free Qore Subscription
  • Extensive demos
  • Future support for cross-game voice chat

These features are available right now, simply by downloading firmware 3.40 for free right now. I have to ask: Will you be subscribing to PSN Plus? If so, why? Let us know below.
