Prepare for Mafia Wars: Bangkok — Choose Yakuza

Mafia Wars

As we mentioned in the previous post, Mafia Wars: Bangkok is likely to force a permanent choice of factions.  Will you stand with the Triad or Yakuza?  Perhaps you’ve bought too many counterfeit DVDs from the Triads on your visits to Hong Kong and you’re ready to stand with Yakuza.  Hopefully they have forgotten about your efforts to “Repel the Yakuza” in Mafia Wars: New York (Hitman level, 11 energy for 21 experience and a shot at looting a grenade launcher).

Who are the Yakuza?  According to Wikipedia:

Despite uncertainty about the single origin of Yakuza organizations, most modern Yakuza derive from two classifications which emerged in the mid-Edo Period: tekiya, those who primarily peddled illicit, stolen or shoddy goods; and bakuto, those who were involved in or participated in gambling…The roots of the Yakuza can still be seen today in initiation ceremonies, which incorporate tekiya or bakuto rituals. Although the modern Yakuza has diversified, some gangs still identify with one group or the other; for example, a gang whose primary source of income is illegal gambling may refer to themselves as bakuto.

“Sex Related Enterprises are their bread and Butter” according to Tru.TV.  But in many ways they have acted as paragovernmental organizations, for example, involved in the post-earthquake relief efforts in Kobe, Japan.
