Mafia Wars, Social

Over on the Mafia Wars fan page, Zynga has announced a new 2-way SMS feature for the game that will allow all participating users (participation is 100% voluntary) the opportunity to play Mafia Wars via their cell phones and SMS (text) messages.

You can learn more about the system, or sign up for it, by clicking the help button in the top right corner of the Mafia Wars gameplay area, and clicking on “SMS Mobile.” You’ll be taken to a page that gives you a rundown of what to expect.

If you enter your phone number, you’ll be able to play the game from your phone, including doing jobs, collecting money, fighting, helping your mafia, using energy packs and more. You’ll be able to customize the types of messages you receive as well as the quantity. Zynga assures users that their privacy will be maintained, and you can opt out of receiving updates at any time.

To give you a bit of added incentive to play the game from your phone, you’ll receive a Dead Ringer pistol for signing up, which comes with 45 Attack and 36 Defense stats, and Zynga promises daily bonuses to players who use SMS messages to play the game.

Zynga doesn’t charge for the SMS messages, but standard text messaging rates do apply, so make sure you know how much each text will cost, as charged by your provider, before signing up at the game’s page.
