Mafia Wars, Social

Recently, we brought you news that Zynga has made plans to update and upgrade the roles animals play in the game. Now, when entering into fights or robbing missions, each member of your mafia will be able to take one weapon, defensive item, vehicle and animal into the fray with them. The animals range from wild hyenas and lions to domesticated dogs like pit bulls. While fans are thrilled about this change, as reported by Games.com, PETA (the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is anything but.

Via the official PETA blog, PETA correspondent Jennifer O’Connell says the following: “Sure, it’s just a game, but perpetuating the image of pit bulls as fighting machines is reckless and wrong. It is particularly troubling in light of the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision that struck down a law banning the distribution of videos glorifying such cruelty to animals.”

Whether or not Zynga will respond or change the way animals are used in fights remains to be seen. Let us know in the comments – do you think PETA is right? Should Zynga remove animals from fights in Mafia Wars?
