OpenFeint has some exciting news for its users that comes in the form of updates and changes to the platform coming in its 2.5 version update. The changes are not minimal and include a restructuring of the service’s API entirely.
As this was reported by Inside Social Games, the most significant change appears to come from the ability to seamlessly integrate turn-based multiplayer into games along with push notifications that make for a richer experience overall. A few games are already making use of the 2.5 update such as Optime’s Tic Tac Toe, Mecho Wars and Checker Kingdoms.
This is OpenFeint’s first step into the multiplayer realm, as their previous strong points were just in leaderboards and achievements. Along with the multiplayer features of the 2.5 update, OpenFeint will also be compatible with Apple’s Game Center. What exactly this compatibility entails, but we’ll be sure to find out when Apple Game Center launches later this year.
