In the latest headlines, it’s very difficult to find tech news that doesn’t mention the name iPhone or Android. Today, we are taking a look at the new Netflix App released this week, along with rumors for iOS 4.1 that will likely be released soon after the Apple event on September 1st.
Netflix App Released for iPhone/iPod Touch
Netflix has been out on the iPad since the device came out with praise from the millions of owners, but it seemingly took longer than usual for the app to reach iPhone shores. This past week, the Netflix app went universal, meaning it will work on iPhone, iPod Touch and iPads all the same.
The new iPhone version works just like the iPad version in that you sign in with your Netflix account and can watch movies on your iPhone over WiFi or 3G. Not only do you have access to your previously organized instant queue, you can also search or browse for new movies right from the app.
If you’d like to check it out for yourself, be sure to download the app from the App Store. The app is free with your Netflix subscription.
To be clear: All that is confirmed at this point is that Apple is having some sort of event on September 1st. Anything said beforehand is pure and complete speculation and means very little. Normally at the Apple September event, a new line of iPods is announced with regular refreshes in all of the iPod line. This year, however, the rumors have been more and more rampant as people are speculating that the new iPod touches will mimic the iPhone 4 in design complete with front-facing camera and retina display.
While these rumors are only rumors at this point, they are not without some sort of fruitful thought to back it up. In the iOS 4.1 beta, there is an option to FaceTime a contact on your contact list by using their email address. Other than that? We’ll just have to wait and see what Steve Jobs himself unveils this coming Wednesday.
