MTV has just purchased Social Express for an unknown amount. Using the power of their development resources, MTV is looking to launch several games based on popular Nickelodeon and MTV shows. The company is also looking to launch a platform designed specifically for indie developers.

This venture shines as MTV’s first outing into the social game world. Other sites that MTV owns and manages are AddictingGames.com, Shockwave.com, Nick.com Games, Nick.com Arcade, Neopets, GameTrailers and Xfire.

“Social gaming is one of the biggest drivers of the explosive growth in social media – it’s fun, it’s engaging, and it’s shareable.” said MTV CEO Judy McGrath. It should also be noted that social games can be extremely profitable which is likely the reason MTV jumped on this chance.

This is all very interesting as to what sort of games we could expect from MTV in the near future. Jersey -ShoreVille? My MTV Crib? What sort of shows or characters would you like to see get their own games?
