According to a recent survey from The Diffusion Group, more PS3′s are connected to the internet than Xbox 360′s. The numbers indicated that 78% of those surveyed connected their PS3′s to the internet, while only 75% of Xbox 360 users indicated they did so.
A spokesperson from Microsoft had this to say concerning the results: “What’s important to keep in mind is the level of activity over an online service, especially when comparing a no-cost service [such as PlayStation Network] to a subscription-based service like Xbox Live.” Essentially pointing out that quantity of users is irrelevant if they are doing nothing with the service they are given.
The spokesperson also pointed to the NPD Online Gaming 2010 Report which indicates that 48% of all online gamers use Xbox Live to play their games and connect with friends. They also pointed towards the NPD study that points out that Xbox 360 users spend more time playing online games than any other platform.
Both sides of the story make interesting arguments and it may show just how dedicated some gamers are. Sure, more PS3′s might connect to the internet but the amount of playtime on the Xbox 360 outweighs the PS3. Very interesting statistics indeed.
