The new location service Loopt has launched a new iPhone app called “Loopt Star” that looks to bring in a full check-in experience offered by other services like Gowalla and Foursquare. Although, Loopt appears to do a bit more than just check-ins.
This app brings in heavy Facebook integration so that connections will be automatic and not fragmented within the services like the other location-based offerings. Not only does this not segment your friends, but it also takes the pressure off of finding your friends on the service, they’ll all be there automatically.
The other improvement over other apps is the reward system. Instead of badges, mayorships and points, there are real-world rewards like discounts for places visited the most often. Mobile Marketing Watch uses an example of a frequent shopper at The GAP receiving a 25% discount just for checking-in.
Many other partners that are offering discounts are Burger King, Stanford University, Universal Music Group with more to come soon. Those companies offering discounts can also adjust rewards based on locations, time of day and other options designed to better connect with users.
Loopt’s CEO commented: “Hyper-local advertising should be about much more than simply clicking on a banner ad — it should be about connecting with brands and getting rewarded for loyalty. Brands want to turn their existing customers into better ones. Loopt Star enables brands to create customized campaigns that reach their customers in a completely targeted, interactive way that rewards the behaviors they want.”
