What can best be described as six-sided Scrabble, Triplepoint client Nathaniel Gray’s Hexalex has players spelling as many words as they can cram onto a large hexagon. GameZebo’s review says that the game is very enjoyable in a solo environment and that the multiplayer is fun, provided you have some local friends around. The only real downside GameZebo could find is the lack of online multiplayer when compared to other games of this type like “Words with Friends.” Rating: 3.5 out of 5.
From THQ comes what is likely the most interesting and engaging Star Wars game for the iPhone yet, Star Wars: Battle for Hoth, a tower defense game. SlideToPlay’s review claims that it is a stark contrast to other Star Wars iPhone games like Star Wars Cantina. It’s up to you, the player to protect the planet of Hoth from the Emperial attack, just like the in the movie The Empire Strikes Back. SlideToPlay says the game has smooth controls, but lacks creativity when compared to other tower defense games. Rating: 3 out of 4.
Neon Play looks to advance golf playing on the iPhone with Golf Putt Pro. TouchArcade says it’s “easy enough that anybody can play, but challenging enough to ensure you’ll keep coming back.” As the name suggests, all you are doing in this small game is attempting to make putts. In order to sink a hole, just judge the slope of the green, angle your shot and tap the ball to putt. TouchArcade says it’s a simple time waster with social networking and leaderboards support to keep you coming back.
