Scared of those dubious, sometimes sneaky cell phone contracts but still want all the fancy coolness that is the iPhone? Well, it looks like Apple now has the answer for the time being. According to a leaked document from Apple, the company will very soon offer an unsubsidized iPhone without needing an AT&T contract. I know some people hate signing contracts worse death itself, so I can imagine there’s some who will be pleased with this information.
Of course, being unsubsidized also means that the upfront price is much higher. The base iPhone 3G 8GB will be $499, iPhone 3GS 16GB for $599 and iPhone 3GS 32GB for $699. I suppose the only real downside I could see is that you are still tied to AT&T either way.
