According to GamaSutra, the iPad may be possibly replacing the need for other gaming portables by being a sort of “all-in-one” device. While many are likely not purchasing the iPad specifically for games, the thought has likely crossed their minds at some point.
Before owning the iPad, most potential buyers showed interest in playing portable games only on dedicated portable gaming devices. Only 23% of potential buyers showed interesting in playing games on the iPad and 8% said smartphones would be ideal.
After owning the iPad however, 38% of owners said they had no reason to own a handheld gaming device. The replacement of a dedicated E-reader was 49% and standard gaming consoles were at 27% with buyers. 56% said they purchased the iPad for entertainment while 42% said it was mainly because it was just plain cool.
All very interesting statistics concerning the iPad and the reasons people purchase them. As for myself, I would likely use the iPad for many things including work, gaming, and other entertainment and browsing. If you have or want an iPad, what would you use it for?
