EA Sports has announced that Gus Johnson will replace Tom Hammond for Madden 11 play-by-play announcer. Chris Collinsworth, who provided color commentary for Madden 10 will continue to provide his services for the next iteration.
Tom Hammond was not a favorite of hardcore Madden-heads, who complained that he was wooden in his delivery.
The developers of Madden 11 are promising that this year’s edition of the game will have 90,000 lines of dialogue from its commentators, which definitely sounds immense. With sports games, the more diverse and sizable you can make the commentary, the better. After all, people can pour hundreds of hours into the title, so not having different lines repeated too often is pretty important.
EA released the following on ESPN showing Johnson delivering some of the lines you’ll hear in the new Madden.
