In its own tribute to the classic video game character, Guinness has published a list showcasing the accomplishments of Mario, the italian plumber we all know and love.
Among the achievements on the list, Mario has the record for most appearances in games, having appeared in “207 distinct titles, including remakes and re-releases.” Along with that astonishing accomplishment, Mario is also the longest running video game character having first appeared in Donkey Kong in 1981.
In the sales world, Mario’s franchise of games hold the record for best-selling series of all time when considered across all-genres. The franchise has sold over 200 million copies since its first outing. The records appear to not stop there as Mario also holds the record for most video game records.
In the blog post containing the list of Mario records, they also stated “The world of gaming was forever changed when Mario made his first appearance in ‘Donkey Kong’, Mario is still ‘The Godfather’ of gaming as the most successful and enduring character in an industry which is constantly evolving.”
