Those who are a fan of the board game Blokus will be very excited to learn that Gameloft has released a digital version of the game on the iPhone. The app plays just as the traditional table-top board game – the game supports either two or four players, with each player being assigned a set of Tetris-blocked shaped, colored playing pieces.
When playing in a four player setting, each player only has one of the four colors (red, yellow, green, and blue), while in a two player setting, each player picks two. The game is played turn-wise, with each player being forced to place their first piece in their color-coded corner of the game board. As you play, you’ll place new pieces on the board in such a way as that the two pieces connect, but only via a “catty-corner” orientation; that is, one corner of the established piece and one corner of the new piece must touch, but no full sides can touch each other.
The object of the game is to place as many of your blocks on the board as possible, while sabotaging any moves your opponent may make. For example, as you’ll be able to figure out which shaped pieces your opponent has left, you can strategically place your own blocks so that they run out of moves. Whoever places the most amount of squares on the board (each piece is comprised of one to five square sections) before everyone runs out of moves is the winner.
As reported by Inside Social Games, the iPhone version of the game contains a lengthy single-player component, consisting of six different tournaments, each comprised of five games each (two versus two teams, two players with two colors, and so on). You can also take the gameplay online, either through local wi-fi or bluetooth, against another player with an iPhone and the game, or completely online against strangers.
Blokus on iPhone is now available for $4.99. If you’re interested in picking it up, head over to ![]()
