Fruit Ninja Update Adds Game Center Multiplayer Support

iPhone, Mobile

Just yesterday, Fruit Ninja updated with its spiffy new multiplayer mode that utilizes Game Center for its integration. The update came as a free download for anyone who has already purchased Fruit Ninja.

To use the new multiplayer mode, all you have to is go to the “New Game” option on the home screen, then “Multiplayer”. You’ll be taken to a screen where you can choose to either invite a friend to come play with you or start a game with a random person. These functions utilize native Game Center support in order to work, so you’ll need at least an iPod Touch 2G or iPhone 3GS for this to work.

In the mode, your fruits show up with Blue icons, your opponents as Red. You’ll need to strike only yours to score points as hitting an opponent’s fruit takes away from your point total. There are also white outlined fruit which either player can hit to earn extra points. At the end of each round, you’re shown your score and are even given the ability to share your results with Facebook or Twitter. The experience is like none other, with the intensity of playing against a real life person making the experience much more intense than before.

While this update didn’t add Achievements or Leaderboard support for Game Center, Halfbrick promises that these features are indeed coming soon along with additional modes such as the “Secret Banana” mode.

For now, you may go ahead and download Fruit Ninja from the App Store. At just 99¢, this new Game Center functionality makes it a steal for any iPhone game aficionado.

So, what do you think? Are you convinced Game Center is the real deal after checking out Fruit Ninja’s integration? Let us know in the comments section below.
