Last week, Helsinki-based startup Frosmo launched its tournament game portal on Facebook. The service has been available to the public in Finland for a while, but now US gamers can join the fun too, and enjoy some brand-new Frosmo Facebook features.
Frosmo is a casual social mish-mash collection of 70 Flash-based games, integrated with tournaments, prizes, and ranking systems, in a Flash-based platform that works on any website. Frosmo ties all the games together with a meta game infrastructure – meaning players level up and progress (from Stone Age to modern times) whilst playing any game in the Frosmo portal.
Now, via Facebook Connect players can login to any Frosmo game portal, or play the games right there on Facebook, as Frosmo is also offering Facebook applications for some of its top titles.
Frosmo players receive an introductory amount of “Frollars” upon joining. (Frollars is the game’s virtual currency, and basically the best name ever). Anyway, you can use Frollars to join tournaments to compete against other Frosmo players in familiar (although rebranded) arcade games. Winners are awarded with more Frollars, losers get nothing. Repeat.
In Frosmo, not only do you compete with other players in tournaments and leaderboards, but you must work together in order to progress and achieve overarching goals. You can also get friends to join your team, which increases your ranking and allows you to earn more Frollars per day.
