If the recent losses in FarmVille players has you scared for Zynga’s survival as Facebook gaming’s master, perhaps the numbers for the developer’s newest game, FrontierVille, will assuage you, as Escapist Magazine brings us the news that the game, which launched just a couple of weeks ago, has already climbed to around 5 million daily active users.
Sure enough, looking at the latest AppData figures confirms this amazing growth, as the game sits at 4.8 million daily active users, and an even more astounding 9.4 million monthly users.
Perhaps FrontierVille’s growth can help explain the continued loss in FarmVille’s user-base, as Zynga’s top game sits at around 63 million monthly active users, down from 67 million just two weeks ago, or, the same time that FrontierVille launched on Facebook.
Conversely, though, FarmVille’s decline had continued to spread even before users were able to tackle the frontier, as the game sat at 70.2 million users on June 1. That being the case, can FrontierVille really be blamed for the loss, or is this just another sign that users may have grown tired of experiencing the same gameplay everyday? Or, perhaps this is just further proof that Zynga has yet to bounce back (in terms of publicity) since Facebook blocked the sending of third-party notifications back in March.
Whatever the reason, when looking at just FrontierVille’s numbers, it is a promising sight, to see a game grow so rapidly. Regardless of the mystery surrounding FarmVille’s numbers, casual and social gaming isn’t going anywhere, and that’s definitely a good thing.
