Playdom has partnered with Purina to bring a new pet-centric game to Facebook – Pet Resort will allow you to open a pet shop of sorts, but instead of selling pets, you care for them by feeding them, petting them, setting up play stations, and so on. It’s like a pet hotel, but the pets never stick around long enough to actually sleep.
As you begin the game, you’ll be able to choose the gender of your avatar, and whether or not your own pet, which does stay in the resort, will be a cat or a dog. You can then name that pet as well.
Once gameplay begins, you’ll be able to order food for both cats and dogs, with different foods taking varying amounts of time to prepare. If you don’t have food in a station, pets will enter the resort only to sit at the door and wait, until they eventually leave. VIP pets will appear at random (you’ll know they’re important because there is a star underneath them), and you can click on them to pet them, and make them happy.
Trash and other items will also randomly appear, and you can click on them to pick them up and receive experience points and coins.
For each animal you successfully feed (or, in the case of Play Stations – for each animal that plays with a toy), you’ll receive small portions of both coins and experience points, and when you first stock your stations with food or toys, you’ll receive larger blocks of both to keep you going.
You can decorate your resort with new items, which come in two varieties, those costing coins and those that cost Cash, the game’s premium currency.
As for what role Purina has in the game, as of now it seems to be reserved to Purina branded foods and toys available to purchase in the game’s store. If they’re stance in the game becomes more widespread, we’ll be sure to let you know. In the meantime, if the overall game is something you’d like to try out, either head over to the game’s page on Facebook to do so, or stick around and check out our Frisky Hands-On for the game below to see exactly what to expect from the game’s first few levels.
