Today’s free iPhone app at FreeAppADay.com is Fuzzle, from CandyCane.
Fuzzle is a puzzle game that sees you arranging colored orbs into lines of five or more like-colored orbs to make them disappear from the screen. Each turn, new multi-colored orbs appear at random locations on the screen, and you’ll be able to tap on one and then tap on its new location on the grid to move it there, but only so long as there is a open path for the orb to travel on to get there.
As an example, if you wanted to form a line of blue orbs along the bottom of the screen, and a blue orb just happened to be sitting at the top, the only way you could get that orb to the bottom would be to first clear out any orbs standing in its way. Orbs can travel horizontally and vertically only, even though lines can also be formed diagonally, so you’ll need to make sure your moving orb has a path to travel around other orbs to make it to the bottom of the screen.
If you play the game quickly, less orbs appear on the screen each turn, but if you take your time, or turn away even for just a few seconds, you’ll find that the queue line in the top right corner of the screen has grown rapidly, causing a whole slew of orbs to appear the next time you make a move. The game ends when the board has been filled completely.
Fuzzle contains multiple difficulty levels, and even power-up items that serve as wildcards. One wildcard is the rainbow ball which can act as any color, while the other is a bomb. It can also serve as any color, but when used in an exploding line, it also removes all like-colored orbs from the board.
The game contains both local and global high score lists, colorblind support, utilizing symbols rather than colors, and even a Christmas theme that can be turned off or on at your leisure. This turns the power-ups into candy canes and stars (the star is the bomb power-up), and the orbs themselves into ornaments.
