iPhone, Mobile

Today’s free iPhone app at is Melodica, from CandyCane.

Melodica is a music application, that lets you compose your own music by mixing lights and sounds in an experience that is intuitive; that is, simple to learn and enjoy.  The app contains four pre-designed sound themes, that are described via smiley faces – one is happy, another in love, while the last two are sad and what appears to be flirty.

From there, you’ll just tap on the screen to see the corresponding square highlight. This activates the note or beat on that square, which automatically plays in a cyclic fashion as the invisible tempo line scrolls over it. Add more highlighted squares and you’ll find that you’re creating real music. You can change the tempo in the menu, along with changing the instrumentation to your own custom level, if the four presets are lacking in your opinion.

You can save, load, and delete any songs you’ve created, along with sharing your melodies with friends who also have the app. This is done by saving the melody and finding its unique ID code (the app assigns it one automatically). Give friends this number and they can load the melody on their own device to listen to.

If you’d like to try out Melodica, make sure to download the app while it’s free today.
