iPhone, Mobile

Today’s free iPhone app at is Escape from NOM, from Glu Mobile.

The game sees you playing as a cute little blob named Alan that needs to, you guessed it, escape from deadly NOMs. These NOMs are larger blob-like creatures that want to eat poor Alan, and you must help him survive. The game is a puzzle-adventure title that is split into three different worlds, each containing 10 different levels of progressing difficulty.

You’ll start at the top of the level, and must push Alan off of the ledge at the top of the screen, with the goal being to land in some colored goo at the bottom of the screen, without running into any NOMs on the way down. The catch here is that Alan must be the same color as the goo at the bottom in order to dive in safely, or else he’ll be splattered into a slimy mess. That being the case, you’ll have to use the bumpers that can change Alan’s color to do so before you land in the goo.

You’ll be able to place these color-changing bumpers, bouncing barriers and transporter vortexes (as just some examples) in levels in order to create a safe path from top to bottom, which is where the puzzle aspects of the game come in, as you try to figure out just how to create said safe path.

Escape from NOM contains a level editor, allowing you to design your own escape situations, and then upload your levels for others to try. In addition, if you like the game, two more worlds can be purchased and played through, with Glu promising that more will be released in the future.

Make sure to download Escape from NOM while the game is free today.
