iPhone, Mobile

Today’s free iPhone app at is Gyrotate, from Goostrix.

Gyrotate is described as an action puzzle game that asks you to match four or more like colored pieces on the game board by rotating the board’s layers. Each level has a quota that must be met, by matching a certain number of pieces of each color, as represented at the top of the screen. You’ll also be timed, and if you run out of time in a level, you lose a life. Lose all three of your lives and it’s game over.

If you can create a match with five or more pieces, you’ll earn a Plus piece, which reduce more of the quota for that particular color. Special pieces like bombs, clocks and locks also appear randomly throughout gameplay. Clocks are color-coded, and can be matched just as a regular piece to add more time to the clock, while bombs will destroy either a full row or full column of the board by tapping on it. Locks, then, stop the layer that they’re in from being rotated. They are also color-coded, so that you can destroy them.

The gameplay is open-ended, meaning that you can keep playing forever, if you have the skill or luck to continue completing the levels. OpenFeint integration allows for the collection of 40 achievements, and for you to track your score on the game’s online leaderboards. You can even continue to listen to your own music as the game’s soundtrack, if you prefer.

Make sure to download Gyrotate while the game is free today.
