Today’s free iPhone app at FreeAppADay.com is Befuddled, from the folks at Inert Soap.
Befuddled is a word game that combines the worlds of Bejeweled and Bookworm into an experience with no time limit, but rather a required point level that must be met in order to progress to the next level. You’ll create words using letters that are adjacent to each other on the grid (that is, either to the left, right, above or below the currently selected tile).
The longer the word (up to 16 letters long), the more points you score, with used letter tiles disappearing from the screen only to be replaced with new tiles that fall from the top. As you first begin the game, you’ll see only wooden tiles, but as you progress, tiles made of different materials (marble, jade, glass and ruby) will join the mix, creating more challenge in that all words that you create have to be comprised of the same type of tile. To be clear, you can’t make a word containing both ruby and wooden tiles, as an example.
Befuddled contains power-ups, like point multipliers, the ability to change the material a tile is made of, a tile scrambler, and so on. The game contains three difficulty levels, and over 350,000 recognized words in its dictionary. As you play, you’ll be able to track your high score and your best words (in terms of point value) for each level.
Befuddled will be free today and today only, so make sure to download the game while you can!
