Casual, Social

The hugely popular and free-to-play MMORPG Free Realms has hit quite a milestone with quite a hoard of people on the game, Free Realms from Sony Online Entertainment has officially surpassed the 9 million player milestone. This milestone not only cements Free Realms as being hugely popular but it also puts it in a solid #2 slot in the MMO world.

World of Warcraft still remains even more popular with a player base of around 11 million players (this is with a pay-to-play model). With constantly releasing content and endless tasks to complete, it’s easy to tell why it is the most played MMORPG ever.

The most staggering footnote of this story is that Free Realms only launched less than a year ago. This means 9 million people signed up within a year which is unheard of in an MMORPG. I suppose that free price tag helped but it usually takes more than that to make a successful game.

Sony Online Entertainment is committed to keep the game growing with constant in-game events which includes the newly introduced Rides. Rides allows players to ride a T-Rex or Dragon at a very fast speed compared to what the player can normally travel at.
